King and Simcoe
A
large map of the Southern Ontario topography around Toronto will lay
out across the sidewalk of Simcoe and King Street. The map is a hand
drawn, accurate representation in graphite and acrylic, which is sourced
from satellite imagery and airplane travel. The audience and unsuspecting
pedestrians will experience the map by walking on it, looking down
from a bird’s eye perspective.
By
walking on the map they are also actively participating in making
a new map by the shuffling of their feet. The graphite will move about
the map with the transfer and smearing from walking. The route most
often taken will eventually disperse the graphite and haze the original
hand drawn map, documenting the crowd’s trail. The documentation
may reveal the heard like qualities of ourselves, that will be continually
transforming throughout the evening.
