City Hall
March, September & October 2012,
Exhibition December 2012.

The installation is a to-scale contour line map from a Government of Canada source, which works out to approx. 1 kilometer for ever 4 inches, making each plywood panel approx. 24 by 12 kilometers each.

The map is detailed with wooded areas showing a specific density and maturity, a section of the Grand River and its tributaries, existing rail line in use in various capacities, and pretty much all highways, roads, and cul-de-sacs.

It is barely a few years out of date, yet already needs updating for many road extensions and round-a-bouts, particularly in re-developing neighborhoods. There are actually many small hamlets and towns that have been amalgamated and make up the City of Kitchener we know today.

We want your stories, maps, and drawings. Visitors are asked to participate by adding their own experiences to the history of the local area. Bring works from home, or paper and art materials will be available on location as well as work areas to encourage people to stay, meet people and even draw or write their own contributions. All ages are encouraged to participate. Jefferson will then curate the museum linking works collected from the community to locations on the map.

We hope to highlight Kitchener’s diverse community by focusing on the amazing stories of the areas geologic history, the development of it’s human history, and the personalities and experiences of it’s people.
